Grade 1.4509 is a Ti and Nb dual-stabilized ferritic grade with improved weldability. Corrosion resistance is often comparable to that of general austenitic grade 1.4301. It is used in a wide range of applications, such as elevator and indoor claddings, door frames, catering and appliance, tubes and heat exchangers.
Grade 1.4509 has good oxidation resistance up to 950°C and is therefore used in exhaust system applications, where it also offers a better general corrosion resistance than grade 1.4512.

As a consequence of its 18% chromium content, grade 1.4509 has resistance to pitting corrosion close to that of grade 1.4301. Like all ferritic grades, 1.4509 is not susceptible to stress corrosion cracking. 4509 / 4510· Titanium and/or niobium alloying reduces sensitivity to intergranular corrosion. Its relatively high chromium content also improves its resistance to crevice corrosion. This is superior to some other ferritic stainless steels, such as 1.4016. Oxidation resistance is good up to 950°C. In chloride containing environments pitting and crevice corrosion is possible, depending on various parameters like chloride concentration, temperature, pH value, redox potential, crevice geometry and others. Optimal material performance is usually achieved through efficient design, correct post-weld treatment and regular cleaning during use (if applicable).
